DEPARTMENT OF ELEMENTAL ANALYSES

Level of minerals in food is very important for the determination of food safety and nutritional aspect. Especially with emerging effect of metals on human health above specific limits of metals pose hazard for public health. Minerals are considered micronutrients such as vitamins. Duties and responsibilities of our laboratory are performing heavy metals' ( Pb, Cd, Sn, As, Hg, Ni, Al)  and other  elements' (Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn, Se, Co, Mo, Cr, Ca, P, Mg, K, Na) analysis on every kind of food and food additives, feed and feed additives, developing methods, method verification/validation, participating and preparing in proficiency test and reference material production related to its study field.  Also, to produce information universally, to be assigned in national and international projects to supply the development of country's sustainable improvement and development, prepare training programs, and publishing papers. Elemental Analysis Laboratory of NFRL became the contact point for all public and private laboratories and other institutions related to elemental analysis, on which all the problems related to elemental analysis are delivered and solved. Our laboratory organized a proficiency test in 2015 (2015-MMB-001) and proceed proficiency test studies. Also in 2018, Lead (Pb) and Cadmium (Cd) Arsenic (As) analysis were accredited in Proficiency Test Studies. Our laboratory was accredited in 2012 in Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd) and in 2016 Arsenic (As) analysis with ICP-MS. Experts in elemental analysis from different occupations are working in our laboratory. Participation in Proficiency Tests organized by FAPAS is provided for at least one cycle per year in the parameters within the scope of accreditation.
